BROADFIELD DENTAL CENTRE COSMETIC DENTISTRY

Your smile is one of your greatest assets. Broadfield Dental Centre dentist Alwyn Prinsloo knows that having a beautiful smile helps give you greater confidence in your personal life and can even change the course of your professional career. That’s why we work with you to help you get the smile that you’ve always wanted.

We have lots of different ways of improving the appearance of your teeth, starting with the use of tooth whitening and tooth coloured resin for your fillings, ceramic fillings and crowns or “caps”.
At Broadfield Dental Centre, we can also make your smile brighter by the use of non-invasive composite veneers. With these resin veneers, we do not need to remove any of your tooth structure. We use specialised handcrafted veneers to give you the best possible result.

Before you embark on your new cosmetic makeover, come and chat with us about alternatives to ceramic veneers and crowns.

COMPOSITE OVERLAYS

Where teeth require a large filling- generally speaking, if more than about half the surface of the tooth needs fixing these are preferred.

When standard filling materials and filling procedures are used to do very large fillings the lifespan of the filling is not good and the remaining tooth is also weak which may lead to fracture.

A standard filling is not recommended since it can compromise the integrity of the tooth and make it vulnerable to fractures.

Composite Overlays are more conservative than crowns since they need less tooth reduction and can be done in one visit. They cover the whole biting surface and help to protect the teeth from fracturing.

TOOTH WHITENING

Teeth darken with age – this is a natural process but also they darken due to the food and drink we consume. Dental Whitening is achieved by applying a dental bleaching agent onto the teeth that is not harmful to the teeth.

There are several bleaching techniques and materials on the market, we only use materials that have been extensively researched. Procedures include:
  • In office bleaching—where we apply the bleaching gel onto your teeth during your visit to us.
  • Home bleach procedures—where we manufacture custom trays to fit your teeth and you apply the bleaching gel at home. It is important that the trays fit very well to achieve optimum results.
  • Over the counter—one of the major companies has recently released an over the counter product different to the products available in retail. This is a cheaper option with the benefit of knowing that it is made by a trustworthy company.

CROWN & BRIDGEWORK

Crowns or “caps” are generally made from ceramic and are used to cover a tooth when it is severely damaged. Crowns are used to strengthen or improve the appearance of your teeth.

A Bridge is used to replace a missing tooth. There are various types of Bridges that can be used to replace a missing tooth.

IMPLANTS

Implants are the first choice to replace missing teeth. The Implant creates an artificial root so to speak onto which a new tooth can be fitted. It is normally a 2-3 stage procedure where the implant is first placed by a surgeon and once healed a tooth is made and fitted to the titanium implant.

This is a great alternative to Bridges and Partial Dentures and can also be used to support dentures.
